Word Clouds

The fun thing about these is that it takes collections of words and allows to you add different dimensions to them using colour, shape, perspective and so much more.  If you are a visual or spatial learner this may help you engage in the text more easily.
So what might you use a Wordle for?  Well you could use it to......

• Illustrate the front cover of an assignment - use words that are related to the topic of the assignment. It straight away lets your teacher know that you have a grasp of the vocabulary of the topic you are exploring.
• Brainstorm a topic.  Write down key words in the wordle, then keep adding to it as research more of the topic. You can also use two wordles to show how your content knowledge has increased during a topic.  Do a 'before' and 'after' and see how you vocabulary and inderstandng has increased.
• As a poster about a topic to show your knowledge of the topic vocabulary.

Tagxedo is another word cloud creator. This one is really cool, because you can make your words into shapes that reflect the topic or concept you are talking about. Have a look at the one below on pianos.

WordArt  (formerly Tagul) 
This word cloud generator has an added feature that allows the user to make each word an active link to connect to a website you determine.

Wordables  
The Word Cloud Guessing Game. This app allows you to elicit evidence of learning or determine background knowledge about a topic. These word clouds are pictures composed of a cloud of smaller words that form a clue to the topic.

WordSalad 
This app generates word clouds from the text you provide, and they can be exported and shared.
