AI Tools for Teachers and Students

Controversy exists around the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in education as a way of supporting student learning. It is certainly a hot and divisive topic as educators struggle to decide whether AI enhances or undermines the learning process.
The following short list provides a range of AI tools that are currently being used by students and teachers. While exploring these tools, consider the following questions to help you develop your own opinion on whether / how they might be used appropriately to enhance learning.

Should AI tools be allowed as part of the learning process?
If yes, how and when should they be allowed?
Do you think AI tools will enhance or hinder student learning? Why and in what ways?
Do AI tools encourage students to "cheat"?
How can AI tools be used to help develop students' critical thinking and problem solving?
How might teachers use AI tools to enhance the delivery of their learning programmes in a way that does not compromise their professional integrity?

If you want to pursue these questions further, there are many groups now on social media (e.g. ChatGPT for Teachers) where you can discuss these and other questions and explore both the potential and challenges of using AI tools in a learning scenario.

ChatGTP - 3
This is probably the most popular tool being used by students at the moment. It is a free chatbot that will write research papers and use various prompts to get answers to a variety of questions.

Quillbot
Quillbolt is a paraphrasing and summarising tool that rephrases work to avoid plagiarism. It can also rewrite work into multiple languages.

Google Bard
Similar to ChatGPT and in its development stage.

Duolingo
A language-learning app Duolingo has classes in more than 30 languages

Grammarly
Grammarly is a text correction, paraphraser, grammar correction and plagiarism-checking ai tool.

Otter AI helps students record and transcribe lectures and their voices at the same time,
