What does it mean to be motivated?
It means taking action to achieve a certain goal or outcome.
We are all motivated to do different things.
For example when you’re hungry, you are motivated to get something to eat. If you want to find all 151 Pokemon in Pokemon GO! you are motivated to invest hours and hours to catch them all.
Now, doing things you like is usually pretty easy. This is called intrinsic motivation, when the drive to do these things comes from within.
It is more difficult to motivate yourself when it is something you do not like doing.
This is where extrinsic motivation may be needed – where the motivation comes from outside of yourself. This may be a parent, teacher, rewards, fear of failure, etc.
For many, doing schoolwork, study, homework or exams may be a struggle. Would you like to turn study into a positive experience? Would you like study, revision, research and exams to be enjoyable rather than a chore?
Look for tools or people who can help to motivate you in areas you struggle with OR you can tap into that inner (intrinsic) motivation and use it to achieve the goals that come less easily.
